Right Where We Want ‘Em!

Well, now even Scott McClellan, one of Bush’s Press Secretaries, has endorsed Obama.

Former Massachusetts Governor William Weld, a Republican, announced this morning his support for the Democratic nominee for President, Barack Obama.

Weld’s endorsement comes a day after former Bush Press Secretary Scott McClellan and the former Governor of Minnesota Arne Carlson, also a Republican, announced their support – separately – of Obama’s candidacy.

In a statement Weld said, “Sen. Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate who will transform our politics and restore America’s standing in the world.”

Can we just say, don’t hold your breath, at least about transforming politics…

As for McClellan, his preference for Obama was made public through a clip CNN distributed promoting a new TV program the network will debut tomorrow.

… McClellan said his vote is all about “change.”

“From the very beginning I have said I am going to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done and I will be voting for Barack Obama,” he said to cheers and applause.

You know, cheers and applause? …hmmm. McClellan was one of the series of liars who covered for Bush during some of the worst times when what was required was truth, rather than spin and obfuscation. His excuse has been that he was duped, fed false information. But surely, if anyone would have known what was really going on, if anyone had access to factual sources close to the top, if anyone knew how the game was being played, it was McClellan; and if it wasn’t it should have been. He seems, like Powell, to be shoring up his reputation at a time when serious questions are about to be asked. We have no time for him, he’ll be devastated to learn; and seriously, his is an endorsement, Like Powell’s, that Obama should repudiate or at least ignore.

Apparently McCain doesn’t mind all this. After all, he’s got George Bush’s endorsement….

As he likes to say, “We’ve got ‘em right where we want ‘em!”, to which someone called Vince has replied, on about five different blog sites at least, that it reminds him of Mark Twain’s description in his story, The Fight:

“Thrusting my nose firmly between his teeth, I threw him heavily to the ground on top of me.”

So McCain may think he’s got Obama on the run in the US, but The Economist has a map of how people would vote around the world, if they could.

That’s quite a shock, even for McCain. It does seem as if the rest of the world doesn’t think McCain would be a force for “restoring America’s standing in the world”, does it?

On the other hand, he’s got Namibia on toast!

And here’s Bill Maher’s “New Rules”:

If you want to know what the reference is to Elisabeth Hasselbeck, she’s a former reality show contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback and current co-host of The View. She has been “stumping” for vice Sarah Palin in Florida this weekend. Dumb and Dumber?
