Pope Vows To Get Church Pedophilia Down To Acceptable Levels

This just in from Onion News Network:

Pope Benedict XVI explains which types of slow, deliberate touching the church deems inappropriate.

VATICAN CITY—Calling the behavior shameful, sinful, and much more frequent than the Vatican was comfortable with, Pope Benedict XVI vowed this week to bring the widespread pedophilia within the Roman Catholic Church down to a more manageable level.

Addressing thousands gathered at St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, the pontiff offered his “most humble apologies” to abuse victims, and pledged to reduce the total number of molestations by 60 percent over the next five years.

“This is absolutely unacceptable,” Pope Benedict said. “It seems a weakening of faith in God has prevented our priests from exercising moderation when sexually abusing helpless minors.”

“And let me remind our clergy of the holy vows they all took when they entered the priesthood,” he continued. “They should know that they’re only allowed one small child every other month.”

Read more here . . .

And while we’re thinking about it, it occurs to us that the cry of “foul!” by Fr. Cantalamessa – that the growing anger against the roman catholic church is like anti-semitism – does indeed suggest a certain resonance. The Israeli Government and the Papists, both in their own ways (one against innocent Palestinians and the other against innocent children) clearly the Perpetrators, when cornered and caught out claim the sanctuary of Victimhood and attempt illegitimately to cloak themselves in the sympathy a still-distressed world reserves for sufferers of the holocaust. It’s nauseating and it’s a lie and the attempt should be added to the long list of their crimes.

I think you may be right. I think I may have deeply offended most of those countries I have no particular wish to visit and some that I would wish to. But those that I would wish to I think have more robust and Enlightened cultures. I think the Italians would still let me back.
As for the Vatican, perhaps I could do a Galileo and recant, you know, just before I got off the plane?

Or throw out a Bible and yourself and see what happens,up in a puff of smoke.
My father was always happy to have Italians as POW’s as they would be delighted to be a prisoner, indeed he said they cooked great food and would sleep outside and be waiting to be accounted next morning , always to the man.
The Legere Mecanique he was not so impressed with, probably because they blew him and his tank up.
Still, if you drive around in a tank,I guess the question is to be asked.
And what has that got to do with all of this? (tempted to end with a ?)to elicit a response, far from it. ?.
Just a small question, how can a corporation such as the catholic church be allowed to place themselves above common law, in all countries, and be allowed to be inert to crime. Well;
Criticism of secrecy in Vatican proceedings

To place the cases under the competence of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has been criticized by some as making the process more secretive and lengthening the time required to address the allegations. For example, in his biography of John Paul II, David Yallop asserts that the backlog of referrals to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith for action against sexually abusive priests is so large that it takes 18 months to get a reply.[citation needed]

Vatican officials have expressed concern that the church’s insistence on confidentiality in its treatment of priestly sexual abuse cases was seen as a ban on reporting serious accusations to the civil authorities. Early in 2010 Cardinal Claudio Hummes, the head of the Congregation for Clergy, said that instances of sexual abuse by priests were “criminal facts” as well as serious sins and required co-operation with the civil justice system. Italian academic Lucetta Scaraffia described the conspiracy involved in hiding the offence as omerta, the Mafia code of silence, and said that “We can hypothesise that a greater female presence, not at a subordinate level, would have been able to rip the veil of masculine secrecy that in the past often covered the denunciation of these misdeeds with silence”.[38]

Some parties have interpreted the Crimen sollicitationis as a directive from the Vatican to keep all allegations of sexual abuse secret, leading to widespread media coverage of its contents.[39] Lawyers for some of those making abuse allegations claimed that the document demonstrated a systematic conspiracy to conceal such crimes.[40] The Vatican responded that the document was not only widely misinterpreted, but moreover had been superseded by more recent guidelines in the 1960s and 1970s, and especially the 1983 Code of Canon Law.[4
There you go, it’s all clear now..

laird lang, sir, – it seems Mssrs Dawkins, Hitchens and Robertson are looking at instigating proceedings should the red shoes not ‘do a Livni’.

I believe this refers to Tzipi Livni, one time Israel PM-designate, now? leader of the Opposition (Kadima) and UK arrest warrant

In December 2009 a warrant for Livni’s arrest was understood to have been issued by a London court at the weekend following an application by Palestinian activists, focused on Livni’s role in Israel’s war against Hamas-run Gaza at the turn of the year. It was withdrawn after she cancelled her visit.

One doesn’t want Benedetto to cancel his visit. One wants him to be arrested on charges of, oh, I don’t know, “Obstruct Justice”? “Harbour criminals”? “Recklessly disregard welfare of minors”?
The problem is that although, as Dawkins says, the Vatican is not a state recognised by the UN, it is recognised by the UK. I think. On the other hand not all of the crimes he is alleged to have committed have occurred since he has been “head of state”. Can he really claim diplomatic immunity for any crime he has ever committed anywhere?

Contrary to populist (i.e. Murdoch) belief Dawkins never said he would arrest Pope Benedict.

Needless to say, I did NOT say “I will arrest Pope Benedict XVI” or anything so personally grandiloquent. You have to remember that The Sunday Times is a Murdoch newspaper, and that all newspapers follow the odd custom of entrusting headlines to a sub-editor, not the author of the article itself.

What I DID say to Marc Horne when he telephoned me out of the blue, and I repeat it here, is that I am whole-heartedly behind the initiative by Geoffrey Robertson and Mark Stephens to mount a legal challenge to the Pope’s proposed visit to Britain.

Geoffrey Robinson wants to bring a legal charge against him and he says the claim to immunity is questionable at best and would not stand up in the International Criminal Court in any case.

Put the pope in the dock
Legal immunity cannot hold. The Vatican should feel the full weight of international law
