Domain Renewal Scam

I would write to them and ask them why they think I would be stupid enough to pay their $45 per year for domain renewal when I get my domains renewed for $9 a year but I fear that would just encourage them and wouldn’t change anything because they rely on gullible people – or just nice people who expect others to be honest – to be fooled by the serious-sounding and even mildly threatening language of the letters.
“Domain Name Expiry Notice … you must renew your domain name … Failure to renew you domain name by the expiration date may result in a loss of your online identity … ” It does say that “this notice is not a bill” and in bold type.

Just ranting because it’s Xmas and people should be nice to each other, apparently, and not try to rip each other off so much (unless you sell chocolates or beer, possibly). And because I don’t like being taken for a fool even if I am.

So if you have a domain name to buy or re-register my gift to you is: Don’t buy from Malcolm’s rip-off shop (melbourneit.com.au) for $49.50/year for .com.au (minimum 2 years), or $75/year for .com, or from this shonky crowd “Domain Renewal Group” for $45/year.

Instead use crazydomains which prices .com.au at $12/year (minimum 2 years) and .com at $9/year. .net.au is only $8, .net $7. If you’re a bit of an internet entrepreneur who wants to sell to mobile phone users and want a .mobi domain name, it costs $18/year at crazydomains compared to $75.60/year at melbourneit.¹

Sir Roger wishes a very happy and wonderful Saturnalia, Mithras, Festivus, or Festival of Sol Invictus (depending on your inclination) to all of Values Australia’s extremely valued fans, readers, lurkers, surfers and accidental stumblers-upon.

That’s it. Time to go and dress up as the Flying Spaghetti Monster and count pirates. Enjoy the five-day Sacred Rites of the Red Lozenge which begin in Melbourne on Boxing Day (additional boxing entertainment between high-priests Siddle and Prior are scheduled “outside in the carpark after this, okay? yeah? you want some? eh? c’mon? yeah? okay?”).

And now, in the name of the Dog the Farter, rod the Bum and hog the Sunday Roast, be all horror and gory, world without them! And may Pasta be always upon thy table. RAmen!
