    Administation Stops Talking to Itself

mine, mine, all mine, my preciousAn eerie silence which broke out in the White House in 2003 was explained Wednesday. The Administration had stopped talking to itself. Pundits are divided on whether this was a good or a bad thing. Some are saying that if talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, then stopping it may illustrate healing. Others say that the fact that the Bush-Cheney Administration is unable to communicate, even with itself, clearly demonstrates it is pathologically out of touch with reality. Another group reports, “We knew that already.”

The debate was sparked by a comment in a Wednesday BBC Newsnight program in which it was revealed that in 2003, following the US-led invasion of Iraq, Iran proposed ending its support for Hamas and Hezbollah, helping to stabilise Iraq and agreeing to increased transparency of its nuclear program. In return they wanted America’s help against a group already listed by the State Department as a terrorist organisation. [The offer, made unilaterally by Iran, was almost identical to the demands now being made of it by the US.]

The State Department, from Secretary Colin Powell down, was enthusiastic about the offer but, as one of Powell‘s top aides, Lawrence Wilkerson, explained,

as soon as it got to the White House, and as soon as it got to the Vice-President‘s office, the old mantra of ‘We don’t talk to evil‘… reasserted itself.

Vice-President Cheney’s office in the White House is believed to have been remodelled to include a direct link to hell. “It’s okay in winter,” said one staffer, “it’s nice and warm, but in Summer heatwaves it’s hell.” Opinion is divided whether Cheney is the devil himself, popping up to take care of business from time to time, or just an ambassador who reports back to Satan periodically to receive further instructions. Insiders say it is almost impossible to tell the difference.
