  • Powell – “I Tried..a Bit…”

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Colin Powell at the Aspen Ideas Festival in which Jim Lehrer asks why he did not personally do more to prevent the war in Iraq.

And you will see that once again there is no sense of accountability. Just as in their own ways Tenet, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez and Wolfowitz have all run a million miles from any responsibility whatever for what they did and what they were paid to do.

“Out of my hands. Not my area. Did what I could. Had no control or power in that area.” On and on it goes. You can rape the world. You can have the idea to rape the world. You can carefully plan to rape the world. You can set off to rape the world. You can fail to stop anyone else from raping the world. You can actually rape the world. And then you can say, “It’s not my accountability”.

Powell sat in the UN and told lies which he had to know were lies. He said that there was incontravertible evidence. He said it was with absolute certainty that he knew that Iraq had WMDs. He showed bogus slides with bullshit interpretations. He knew the interpretations were dodgy because he and others had been warned about the credibility of the sources of the “intelligence“. He sat in the UN Security Council chamber and begged for war on the basis of these lies. And now he says he “tried to stop this war”. What a lying hypocrite. But there he is, acting like a celebrity, looking and sounding so comfortable and so confident and so well-paid for the crimes against humanity which he aided and abetted.

These people should be indicted and tried for their crimes against both the Iraqi and American people (amongst others). Instead they simply say it “wasn’t my fault” and sink into the luxury lifestyles that their greed and moral corruption have bought them.
